About Krista Schaefer
I feel passionate about helping clients unlearn toxic diet culture messages that keep them stuck in chronic yo-yo dieting or chasing poor nutrition advice. I strive to empower my clients through nutrition counseling to feel more in control of what will work best for their lifestyle, health circumstances and preferences. Whether I’m working with athletes to improve sport performance or helping a client lower their A1c, I always take time to create a personalized nutrition plan WITH my client. Together we decide what changes to food, nutrition and movement will have an impactful and lasting effect on their overall wellbeing.
At Modern Nutrition NW nutrition counseling isn’t just about sharing the science of food and nutrition with clients. I know that the relationship between food and body is deeply complex and impacted by a myriad of factors including: early childhood experiences, access to food, financial resources, culinary skill level, health literacy, mental health, stage of life, etc. Our dietitians are uniquely qualified and committed to incorporating the science of food and nutrition with other modalities for the highest quality patient centered care, or treatment plans, or outcomes.
Oftentimes it isn’t a lack of knowledge but rather figuring out how to implement the information day to day. Which is why I consider how to deliver this knowledge in a way that best serves my client. There isn’t a one size fits all plan for all people. Because of this I am committed to improving my counseling skills through continuing education using different modalities such as:
- Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Motivational Interviewing
- Stages of Change
